What is the practice of Dharma?
It is important not just to learn it, it is important to ensure of what you have learned. Buddha urged people not to simply take even his words on trust, for it does not gives true development. He urged to make sure of each obtained knowledge, for it leads to development. The mastery of the Dharma occurs only in the application of the Dharma.
The final liberation (Nirvana) is liberation from the concept of oneself as a separate entity. The Gre...at unity with the one and the World soul is not an end of oneself, but a consonance of Reality and joining with it, this is the development to the level of the resonance with the Universe, not the loss of oneself. It is not dissolution, it is the finding.
Master about the necessity of philosophy.
The study of philosophy is possible only when the mind is taken under control. Before that, the mind will see only what it wants to see.
When the mind is calm, it transmits the light of wisdom, and philosophy (Dharma) permeates the essence of consciousness and begins to change it. Then the human consciousness ceases to contradict the Dharmas, begins to free itself from the misconceptions and to replace them with the Dharma.
...But Dharma is not knowledge alone. It is not ideas about something. Dharma is the way the Sat (and all the different parts of it) are imprinted within the mind of the Tathāgata without the distortion. He is the guide of this knowledge.
Having ideas about the universe, many clichés, the person is thereby disengaged from the universe and falls into Attavada – the false sense of separateness from the World Soul, – that is everything. When the cliches go away, and Dharma takes their place, they permeate the consciousness and destroy Attavada, and the disciple begins to understand the universe as inseparable part of him, not as an outsider. From such knowledge interaction, flow and joining are born.
To become a part of the World Soul, in the end, means to reach Nirvana, because the World Soul attains Nirvana and abides in it. A disciple comes to Nirvana not by himself (herself): he joins with Alaya, a one World Soul, which is in Nirvana. And, as part of it, he enters Nirvana - like the drop returns to the ocean.
Philosophy is important as the acquisition of Dharmas, the destruction of Attavada and return to a state of unity with the world soul.
