The Science in Building Confidence with Mel Robbins

Law of attraction. Manifestation. Visualization.

Mel describes them as vision or seeing signs, and it has a relation to our brain system.

Now, listen carefully as Mel Robbins made this part technical and science-related.

Our brain has the reticular activating system, a system of neurons that filters the information in your brain– and you are responsible for the filtering. What you will always think or tell your brain will penetrate and adapt.

Let’s say you continually think everybody hates you. Your reticular activating system will easily recognize and point out evidence that confirms your negative thinking.

What’s the importance of RAS?

The RAS or reticular activating system plays a huge role in our memories. It filters every piece of information inside your brain. Imagine if your brain doesn’t filter any information? That would be a problem, your brain will explode out of exhaustion and information overload.

Thus, it’s the role of the reticular activating system to filter information and retain specific information that it agrees with.

But, what’s the connection between the reticular activating system and visualization?

You can use visualization to reprogram the reticular activating system in your brain. Your brain will see an opportunity to build moments.

Two-Step Process of Visualization

Visualization comes in a simple process with two easy steps.

All of us have goals, don’t we?

  • Grab a pen and paper and write down what you want to achieve.
  • Go over each goal and do a visualization exercise

How can you start with the visualization exercise?

Mel taught us how to do it scientifically.

Let’s say, you want to improve your self-worth. You need to visualize how your life will be if your self-worth has improved.

  • Close your eyes and create a scenario inside your head.
  • Imagine what it feels and how life looks like if you have improved self-worth.

Well, you can imagine being carefree with your relationships, confident at work or with your business, you are taking care of yourself.

When you start visualizing these scenarios, consciously think about the positive emotions you feel in these situations.

You will feel proud, calm, happy, and grateful. Once you mirror these scenarios, you will feel good about yourself.

But, what’s actually happening?

The Science Behind Mel RobbinsVisualization

When you are visualizing, there’s amazing magic that’s happening in your brain. You are training your brain to develop a different filter.

In reality, our brain cannot differentiate the bad happenings from the good ones. It only recognizes what you instill and let it filter. It will encode or develop scenarios and feelings into real memory. That’s how the reticular activating system works.

Based on research, experts say the more you visualize, the greater your confidence is [1]. If you make 30 seconds every morning a habit, you will achieve more of your goals.

You only need 30 seconds of your day to make a change.

If you are used to waking up anxious for work, take 30 seconds and visualize how great the day is at work. When you visualize things, it develops the skill as though you are actually doing it.

As you do the visualization process, your brain is reprogramming.

How to Use Visualization to Build Confidence

Before we begin, let’s have a serious talk.

Sit on the most comfortable chair on our couch at home. Focus on your breathing, close your eyes and allow yourself to visualize scenarios in your head. Do not rush. Take your time.

Now that you are done, let us ask you these questions. Ponder them.

  • What does confidence give you? Are you afraid of success and strong self-esteem?
  • What does confidence sound like?
  • What is the smell of success? Will it make you become more influential and outstanding?
  • How would you like to experience confidence?

These questions may have the easiest or hardest questions. However, it’s the start. You can further the theories and boost their confidence.

As mentioned, visualization reprograms our brain. It helps us relax, enhance performance, and aid pain management.

Follow these simple tips to know how to build confidence.

By then, you will feel the ripple of change. You become good and huge.

Remove those intriguing thoughts, make arrangements in your home,
