First International Conference of the Neurophysiology of Silence

The Research Institute for Neuroscience, Education, and Didactics (RINED) of the Patrizio Paoletti Foundation, in collaboration with Sapienza University of Rome and Haifa University, organizes the first edition of the International Conference of the Neurophysiology of Silence which will be held on 26, 27, and 28 July 2019 in the Monastery of San Biagio (Nocera Umbra, Italy).

During the three days of the conference, neuroscientists, philosophers, psychologists, medicians, and experts in meditative practices will intervene. The aim of the entire scientific event is to deepen the theme of silence and the experience of emptiness and stimulate a debate that leads to addressing these issues from different perspectives in order to broaden the knowledge on this intriguing phenomenon of consciousness. The different approaches to the theme of silence will also allow to explore the theme from both inside and outside, thus creating a bridge of dialogue between practical experience and the theoretical scientific approach.

In this regard, different artistic performances, exhibition, and guided meditation exercises will enrich the program of the conference by integrating practical and theoretical discussions. While, with regard to the topics that will be treated, these will range from the neurophysiology of meditation to the importance of silence in music, to the application of mindfulness in the clinical and working environment.

We hope that the conference will facilitate the arise of new collaborations aimed at formulating new research questions and hypotheses in the study of silence according to neuro-scientific, psychological, educational, philosophical and practical-contemplative approaches.
