Carbon Cleaning dpf

Over time, the exhaust and engine parts of your car will get clogged up with dirt, grime and particulates which can hamper the performance of your car as well as increasing wear and tear on parts. One part that suffers especially from particulate build-up is the DPF. So, DPF Cleaning is the main thing that boosts your vehicle’s performance.

A DPF (or Diesel Particulate Filter) is – you guessed it – a device in the exhaust system of diesel vehicles that filters particulates from the exhaust fumes. Designed to reduce emissions in line with European standards by filtering out soot and particulate matter from the exhaust gases as they leave the exhaust, your DPF can become clogged or inefficient over time.

DKU DPF Solution is as follows :

  • First, we manually remove the DPF from your exhaust
  • Then, we carefully split open the DPF unit to access the filters
  • Soak the DPF filter in cleaning chemicals
  • Reassemble the DPF unit and reinstall in your vehicle

DPF Regeneration and Hydro-Clean

  • We can also perform manual DPF regenerations with Hydrocarbon Cleaning services to improve the performance of your DPF unit.
  • While your vehicle regenerates the DPF, our carbon cleaning services remove any other impurities in your vehicle.

DKU Performance can help you clean up
your DPF for cleaner exhausts!

In February 2014, new UK MOT regulations came into effect stipulating that vehicles originally fitted with DPF units must have the units still in place. It is an offence under the Road Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations to use a vehicle modified so that it doesn’t comply with the air pollutant emission standards it was designed to meet, so you need to keep your DPF in working order.

The potential penalties for using a vehicle that’s not fit to pass emission standards are fines of up to £1000 for a car or £2500 for a light goods vehicle. Save yourself money and worry by keeping your DPF in good nick with DPF regeneration, replacement and cleaning services from DKU Performance – you can thank us later.

DPFs need regular cleaning and/or maintenance to work their best.

As with any filter, Diesel Particulate Filters need to be clean to scrub the most particulates from your exhaust. Fortunately, DPF units are designed to clean themselves – to an extent – automatically: Passive DPF Regeneration happens when your exhausts reach high enough temperatures to burn off some of the trapped particulates, though this method is far from perfect.

Over time, soot will build up in your DPF, affecting performance, fuel economy and the quality of your exhaust fumes. Left unattended, a blocked DPF can cause extensive engine damage and potentially a fire hazard in your exhaust, which is easily avoided with regular check-ups.

Many newer vehicles are equipped with safety features that limit your vehicle’s power and speed in the case of a blocked DPF. This so-called ‘limp home’ mode will leave you with barely enough power to drive to a garage or your home.

How can I get my DPF working properly again?

If you’ve noticed any of the symptoms of a faulty DPF, don’t ignore them: Get professional advice and address the issue before it costs you in performance, parts or fines. By the time your DPF warning lights are on, your filter will be seriously blocked, leaving you with the following options:

  • DPF Regeneration
We can help regenerate your DPF by burning off the built-up residue and soot in a controlled environment.
  • DPF Cleaning
By removing the DPF unit, giving it a deep clean and replacing it, we can remove almost all the particulates that were clogging up your filter.
  • DPF Replacement
A quick DPF replacement will give your exhaust system new life.

If you’re still uncertain of which service would be best for your DPF needs, please contact a member of the DKU team for advice, guidance or to arrange a visit to our garage.

Common Misconceptions:

While cleaning a DPF can be a complicated business, you shouldn’t be taken in by quick fixes and lazy solutions. When it comes to getting your DPF in good working order, there is no substitute for professional repairs and reconditioning. See the list below for a couple of common myths we’ve debunked:

  • ‘Going for a blast’ can clean your DPF:
While passive regeneration happens at high speeds, this isn’t enough to properly clean your DPF and can even damage your vehicle
  • Putting DPF cleaning additives in my car will clean the unit:
While there are many additives on the market which can help your engine health, there is still no substitute for thorough DPF cleaning or regeneration
