Eh quoi ! tout est sensible ! Pythagore.

Homme, libre penseur ! te crois-tu seul pensant
Dans ce monde où la vie éclate en toute chose ?
Des forces que tu tiens ta liberté dispose,
Mais de tous tes conseils l’univers est absent.

Respecte dans la bête un esprit agissant :
Chaque fleur est une âme à la Nature éclose ;
Un mystère d’amour dans le métal repose ;
« Tout est sensible ! » Et tout sur ton être est puissant.

Crains, dans le mur aveugle, un regard qui t’épie :
À la matière même un verbe est attaché...
Ne le fais pas servir à quelque usage impie !

Souvent dans l’être obscur habite un Dieu caché ;
Et comme un œil naissant couvert par ses paupières,
Un pur esprit s’accroît sous l’écorce des pierres !

Что же! Всё в мире чувствует! Пифагор

Подумай, человек! Тебе ли одному
Дарована душа? Ведь жизнь — всему начало.
Ты волей наделен, и сил в тебе немало,
Но миру все твои советы ни к чему.

Узрев любую тварь, воздай ее уму:
Любой цветок душой природа увенчала,
Мистерия любви — в руде, в куске металла.
«Все в мире чувствует!» Подвластен ты всему.

И стен слепых страшись, они пронзают взглядом,
Сама материя в себе глагол таит...
Ее не надо чтить кощунственным обрядом!

Но дух божественный подчас в предметах скрыт;
Заслоны плотных век — перед незримым глазом,
А в глыбе каменной упрятан чистый разум.

Astonishing! Everything in intelligent! Pythagorus

Free thinker! Do you think you are the only thinker
on this earth in which life blazes inside all things?
Your liberty does what it wishes with the powers it controls,
but when you gather to plan, the universe is not there.

Look carefully in an animal at a spirit alive;
every flower is a soul opening out into nature;
a mystery touching love is asleep inside metal.
"Everything is intelligent!" And everything moves you.

In that blind wall, look out for the eyes that pierce you:
the substance of creation cannot be separated from a word . . .
Do not force it to labor in some low phrase!

Often a Holy Thing is living hidden in a dark creature;
and like an eye which is born covered by its lids,
a pure spirit is growing strong under the bark of stones!
