Best Time to Trek Kumara Parvatha

While the Kumara Parvatha Trek can be undertaken at any time of the year, the winter months of December to February offer the best weather and trekking conditions. The cool and dry climate during this time makes the trek more comfortable and enjoyable, with clearer skies and less chance of rain. The temperature ranges from 15°C to 25°C during the day and can drop down to 5°C or below during the night.

Kumara Parvatha Trek Itinerary

The Kumara Parvatha Trek typically takes two days and one night, beginning at the small town of Kukke Subramanya. Trekkers can reach Kukke Subramanya via bus from nearby cities like Mangalore or Bangalore. Once at Kukke Subramanya, trekkers can hire a local guide and begin the ascent.

Day 1 - The trek to the summit of Kumara Parvatha is challenging and requires a good level of physical fitness. The climb to the summit takes around 6-8 hours, depending on the pace of the trekker. Along the way, trekkers will pass through dense forests, cascading streams, and rocky terrain, making for an exciting and varied trekking experience. On the first day, the trek starts from Kukke Subramanya and reaches the first basecamp, Bhattara Mane. This is a perfect place for camping and staying overnight.

Day 2: On the second day of the Kumara Parvatha trek, the group will start their journey towards the Kumara Parvatha peak. This is the most challenging part of the trek as the climb is steep and requires a good amount of endurance and stamina. The trail is covered with dense forests of shola and eucalyptus trees which provide a refreshing environment. Along the way, you will come across a small water stream where you can refill your water bottles.

After a few hours of trekking, you will reach a point called Battara Mane, where you can take a break and have some food. The view from Battara Mane is breathtaking, and it's a good spot for some photography.

After Battara Mane, the trail gets steeper, and the terrain becomes rocky. This part of the trek requires a lot of focus and determination. You will need to use your hands and legs to climb the steep slopes.

Finally, after a few hours of trekking, you will reach the Kumara Parvatha peak. The view from the top is simply stunning, and it makes all the effort worth it. You can see the lush green forests and the beautiful valleys from the top. The feeling of accomplishment is indescribable, and you will feel proud of yourself for completing this challenging trek.

After spending some time at the peak, the group will start descending towards Kukke Subramanya. The descent is not as challenging as the ascent, but it can be slippery, so you need to be careful. You will reach Kukke Subramanya by late afternoon, where you can freshen up and have some food.

Day 3: On the third day, the group will visit the famous Kukke Subramanya temple, dedicated to Lord Subramanya. This temple is one of the most popular pilgrimage sites in Karnataka, and it's believed that worshipping Lord Subramanya here can help you get rid of all your problems and obstacles.

After visiting the temple, the group will start their journey back to Bangalore. The drive back is long, but you can take breaks in between and enjoy the scenic beauty of the Western Ghats.

Accommodation

There are no hotels or guesthouses near the Kumara Parvatha trail, so most trekkers prefer to stay in Kukke Subramanya, which is the nearest town. There are several budget-friendly accommodation options available in Kukke Subramanya, including lodges and homestays. Some trekkers also prefer to camp near the trailhead, but this requires prior permission from the forest department.

Permits

You need to obtain a trekking permit from the forest department before starting the Kumara Parvatha trek. The permit can be obtained from the forest office in Kukke Subramanya, and you need to provide your personal details and the details of your trekking group. The permit fee varies depending on the number of days you plan to trek, and it is valid for a maximum of three days.

Overall, the Kumara Parvatha trek is a challenging yet rewarding experience. It requires a good amount of physical fitness and mental strength, but the feeling of accomplishment at the end is priceless.
