Arafat Mountain (Jabal-Ar-Rahmah)

Arafat Mountain, or Jabal-Ar-Rahmah as it is often known, is a peak in the Makkah region of Saudi Arabia. Since the Prophet Muhammad gave his farewell speech there, Muslims attach great significance to the area. Located around 25 kilometres east of Makkah, the roughly 70-meter-tall Arafat Mountain is a prominent landmark in the region.

It is claimed that the Prophet Muhammad received his final revelation from Allah on this mountain, hence the other name, the Mount of Mercy. Thousands of Muslims make the journey to this mountain each year to perform the Hajj pilgrimage because of its holy significance in Islam.

Arafat Mountain's significance dates back to the time of the Prophet Adam and Eve, who were supposedly reunited there after being separated for a long time. It is also claimed that Allah directed Prophet Abraham and his son Ishmael to construct the Kaaba there.

Arafat Mountain is a mandatory stop on the Hajj pilgrimage. People from all over the world come to the mountain of Arafat on the ninth day of the Islamic month of Dhu al-Hijjah to pray and ask Allah for forgiveness. The faithful devote their days to prayer, reading verses from the Quran and offering up petitions to Allah for his favour.

People believe that on the Day of Arafat, Allah visits the lowest heaven to forgive the sins of people who are praying there. Praying atop Arafat Mountain is thought to be more beneficial than fulfilling any other religious duty alone.

Arafat Mountain is a sacred site, yet it is also a stunning location. The peak is surrounded by steep terrain and provides stunning views of the neighbouring lowlands. Hiking, picnics, and camping could not find a better spot.

Authorities have built guardrails and barricades along the mountain's trails for the protection of the pilgrims. Arafat Mountain is also reachable by vehicle or bus, and numerous tour companies provide guided excursions there.

Muslims have been visiting Arafat Mountain since the time of the Prophet Adam and Eve, thus its significance goes back a long way. It's a very beautiful and spiritually significant spot. Visitors to Arafat Mountain on the Hajj are considered some of the luckiest individuals on the planet.
