The mystery over "since"

Hey, mysterious folks of the Channel!
I've come here today to convey an idea to yooouu .... It's gonna be a strange use of "since", since you're not aware of it, deal?

So, ever since we learnt the word "since" in English, some of us in grade 2, some - in grade 5, some - only after 30 years of age, we have known it as some BLOODY conjunction of TIME only.

e.g. Since the time I met you last time (sorry for the tautology), you've turned into a real beauty, dearie!

e.g. I have never seen him since the day he moved out.

And plenty of them we can come up with without even a draft, eh? Save the "only" possible Perfect use in there, for sure. Bullsh*t! We can use any Tense we need and we want, remember that! Though it's not the matter for now, is it?

The second, and less common and less formal yet no less interesting, use of "since" is that of "because" and "as". What I say is that "since" gives us a reason, too.

e.g. Since you've come, let's have dinner, shall we? (because you have come)

e.g. I know the rest of the story, since I was enlightened yesterday. (as I was told about it)

NB Try avoiding ambiguity using "since" in the meaning of "reason", when it's unclear, alright?

e.g. Since you came, I haven't been able to focus.

It's a real mean feat to guess what that one means, eh? I'd say either "since the moment of your coming" or "because you came", so use equivalents, will you?

e.g. From the moment you came, I haven't been able to focus.

e.g. I haven't been able to focus because you came (because of your coming).

I love it, do you?

Cheers!
