An Overview of How Plastics Are Made

How plastics are made is an interesting question. How plastics are made is a process that starts with raw materials, heat and pressure and then chemicals. In a sense, how plastics are made plays a key role in how everything is made. Plastic is made through three processes and understanding how each of these processes occur in turn gives us an idea how plastics are made.

The first how plastics are made involves breaking down materials which already have been manufactured into a liquid, cool and then passing gas of high temperature into the mixture. This creates the first polymer chains. The chain lengths are dependent on the length of the chemical chains. Longer chains form tighter and stronger plastics while shorter chains make for lighter and more flexible materials.

The second process of how are plastics made involves the combination of chemicals and heat at very high temperatures. At this point monomer molecules are formed. These are the ones which can be used to create a range of polymer chains. As polymerization progresses even further the molecules themselves change from chains into longer chains. This results in increasing tensile strength and also produces a wider range of polymer chains.

The third and final step of how plastics are made involves the addition of heat and pressure again to introduce polymer chains into the liquid. When this occurs the molecule which had been present initially as ethylene is replaced by nitrogen and the end result is a molecule which is polarised and then linked together via a repeating unit. Polymerization occurs in two different ways. The first involves adding a hydrogen bonding agent to the polymer chains to make them polarised. The other method involves adding an acid and forming the polymer chain molecules into repeating units.

The reason why each type of polymer is made in different ways is because they can be constructed with any number of different monomer types. In the case of polymers in plastics the only monomers commonly available are: nylon, ethylene, dipolylcoate and polypropylene. Most of the time polymers are constructed using a base polymer and then further polymer components areadded to form the desired end product. The polymers then bond together via their complementary base polymer.

The role that heat plays in how pet bottle is made is to help polymerize the monomers and to speed up the polymerization process. Heat works by expanding the size of the molecules and therefore the number of times that anidentical molecular unit can bond with another. When the polymerization process is completed the result is a solid structure consisting of multiple linked polymer chains. The consistency of the end product depends on how many times these chains are bonded together.

How plastics are manufactured also relies heavily on the speed at which condensation polymerization takes place. This is how plastics with high strength and elasticity are formed. Once the desired shape is achieved through condensation polymerization the polymers are extruded through a heat curing machine. They are then dropped into molds where they harden when exposed to high temperatures. Once hardened, they are plated with a finish that imparts a glossy metallic look.

How plastics are made has a significant impact on how they are used. The wide variety of uses for plastics, their versatility, and the quickness at which they are formed have resulted in them being widely used around the world. Plastics can be used for a wide range of things from food packaging, to building and infrastructure. They have even been developed to combat pollution by reducing the amount of waste that is made during their production.
