TYPES OF MOLD HIDING IN YOUR PROPERTY

Image for post

Mold can grow anytime, anywhere. The truth is that despite myths, mold can grow on new properties as well as on old ones.

It usually thrives in damp, humid environments, affecting entire properties. Bathrooms, kitchens, and basements are among the most common areas. It can grow at a tremendous rate and infest an entire structure.

If left untreated for a very long time, it can cause a hazard to your health and that of everyone living on or spending time on your property.

Before mold removal begins, it is essential to identify the type of mold present. Here are the 3 most common types of mold:

  • Alternaria: This is an allergenic mold with a velvety texture that usually grows under the sink or bathroom and is often a sign of water damage. Some of the many effects of this type of mold are severe allergic reactions, including asthma attacks and symptoms.
  • Aureobasidium: This is a fast-growing slimy mold that is usually creamy or pinkish, later turning into darker colors like black or dark brown. It looks very similar to Stachybotrys chartarum, also called Black mold or toxic mold. It likes to grow on wooden surfaces, painted areas or even behind wallpapers. Reactions include dermatitis, mold and nail infections, as well as skin rashes.
  • Fusarium: This is a toxigenic and allergenic type of mold. It usually grows in wet and cold areas of the home, affecting carpets, wallpapers, and other fabrics. It appears pale or brightly colored, in a range of white to yellow, pink to yellow, or brown. Its consequences vary, but the most common are skin rashes, coughs, runny noses, and itchy eyes. If exposed to it for a very long time, it can have fatal consequences.

Although the three types of mold mentioned above are among the most common found in homes, there are also many more. Whatever the type of mold you are dealing with, the best approach you can take is to call a restoration company.
