A Step-by-Step Guide on How to Create a Group in Instagram
Introduction:
Instagram is not just a platform for sharing photos and videos with your followers; it also provides various features to connect and engage with like-minded individuals. One such feature is the ability to create groups.
Instagram groups allow you to bring together a community of people with shared interests, facilitating discussions, collaborations, and deeper connections. In this article, we will provide you with a comprehensive guide on how to create a group in Instagram.
Step 1: Update Instagram to the Latest Version
Before you can create a group on Instagram, ensure that you have the latest version of the app installed on your device. Updates often introduce new features and bug fixes, ensuring a smooth user experience.
Step 2: Launch the Instagram App
Open the Instagram app on your device. If you're not already logged in, enter your login credentials to access your account.
Step 3: Access the Direct Messages (DM) Feature
At the bottom right corner of the screen, you'll find a paper airplane-like icon. Tap on it to access the Direct Messages (DM) feature. This feature allows you to send private messages to individuals or groups.
Step 4: Create a New Chat
In the DM interface, you'll see your existing chats. To create a new group, tap on the "Pen and Paper" icon located at the top right corner of the screen. This will open a new chat creation window.
Step 5: Select Group Chat

Now, you can start adding participants to your group chat. You have two options to add members:

b) Select from Existing Chats: If you've previously had conversations with the desired participants, you can scroll through your existing chats and select their usernames.
Step 7: Customize the Group Name and Photo
After adding participants, you can customize the group name and choose a group photo. To change the group name, tap on the group name field, and enter a suitable name. To set a group photo, tap on the camera icon next to the group name. You can select an image from your gallery or take a new one.
Step 8: Configure Group Settings
Instagram provides several group settings that you can configure according to your preferences. These settings include:
a) Allow Others to Request to Join: By default, only the creator of the group can add participants. However, you can enable the option to allow others to request to join the group. This can be useful for public interest groups or communities.
b) Mute Notifications: If you want to limit the number of notifications you receive from the group, you can enable the "Mute Notifications" option. This way, you'll only be notified when someone mentions your username or replies directly to your messages.
c) Share Group to Stories: You can choose to share your group to Instagram Stories, allowing your followers to join the group directly from your story.
d) Show/Hide the Group in Chats List: You can toggle the option to show or hide the group in your chats list. This can help in organizing your chats if you're part of multiple groups.
